Friendly Reminders:

Classwork/Homework: Any time a student makes below an 80% on classwork or homework, he or she may come in for a tutorial session to make corrections and receive some credit points added to the original grade for a maximum of an 80%.

Make-up/Late Work Policy: The student is responsible for acquiring the missed work from the teacher. A student will have the number of days absent plus one to make up the missing work for an excused absence. Assignments made prior to the student’s absence are due upon the student’s return.

When students do not turn in homework or classwork unrelated to an absence on the due date, teachers will penalize the assignment, after grading for accuracy, and additional 10 points for the first day late, 10 more points the second day late, 10 more points the third day late, and on the fourth day the students will receive a zero.

Missing Work: An “M” will be entered in RenWeb to indicate an assignment is missing. After the fourth day, if the assignment is not turned in, the “M” will be changed to a zero. As a parent, please talk with your child about the assignment and have him or her speak with the teacher about it. It is our goal to help students develop responsibility with their own work by taking ownership over their own learning. Encouraging your child to speak with us first will help develop this self-advocacy.

  • Uniforms– Boys must wear a belt this year and tuck their shirts in. Please encourage that this happens before entering into the building. Tennis shoes may not be worn in 5th grade. However, students may change into them for recess or P.E. Please see the Family Handbook for uniform rules.

  • Drop Off– We want the students to learn responsibility and self-advocacy and one of the ways we begin doing this in 5th grade is to allow students to walk to our homerooms in the morning on their own. Please drop off in the morning carline and encourage this independence in your child.

First Day!

Hello to our wonderful new FIFTH grade parents!

We are having a great first day! We have seen many anxious and nervous faces turned to smiling faces!

We wanted to remind you and let you know of a few things:

1. Thank you for being patient as we dismissed through carline. Remember that elementary dismisses before our 5th grade. If you are happen to pull forward and the elementary are still dismissing, you will be asked to circle around to the back and wait for our 5th grade carline to start. We apologize for any inconvenience, but we appreciate your patience. Normally, we dismiss by the mailbox, however when it rains, we will dismiss under the front awning. Please drive through carline on the right side (one lane).

2. If your child would like to change a 5th or 6th period connection class, please refer to Dr. Kerce’s previous email sent earlier today.

3. We communicate often in 5th grade. One way that we can get quick reminders out is through the Remind app. Please download the app and text @cf2cf4 to the number 81010.

Thank you!

We are excited about a great year!
