R.U.S.H. Dress Down Days!!!

Tuesday: MATHLEATS VS ATHLETES – JEANS ALLOWED – Do you align yourself with the brain-iacs or the jocks? Showcase your R.U.S.H. spirit by picking a side and wearing it proudly!

Wednesday: DYNAMIC DUO/TWIN DAY – JEANS ALLOWED – A duo is a pair of things or people. Batman and Robin are a famous dynamic duo, but a duo is any two people doing something together, not just crime fighting.  In order to win a contest for this fun day, you must be in pairs sharing the same theme!

Throwback Thursday: DECADES DAY – JEANS ALLOWED – Students will take us back and dress in a time period between the 20’s and the 90’s, or they may where a past year’s R.U.S.H. week shirt and jeans. Grab anything from a poodle skirt to a tie dye t-shirt and say, “far-out this is going to be a fun day!”

Friday: R.U.S.H. WEEK SHIRT/PATRIOT DAY – JEANS ALLOWED – Students may wear this year’s R.U.S.H. week shirt with school approved jeans.  If they were unable to purchase one this year, they may wear the normal jean’s day attire.

Reminder:
No crop tops, ripped or excessively tight clothing, short dresses, short skirts, articles with inappropriate writing, sleeveless shirts, low cut shirts, see-through shirts, open toe shoes or pajamas.  Sweatpants are allowed.

Thank you!

Missing Work: An “M” will be entered in RenWeb to indicate an assignment is missing. After the fourth day, if the assignment is not turned in, the “M” will be changed to a zero. As a parent, please talk with your child about the assignment and have him or her speak with the teacher about it. It is our goal to help students develop responsibility with their own work by taking ownership over their own learning. Encouraging your child to speak with us first will help develop this self-advocacy.

Medication:  If medication needs to be given to the nurse, parents must physically walk in and fill out a medication form in the nurse’s office. Please do not send medication to school through your child.

Technology:  Our Family Handbook states that cell phones are permitted on campus, but they may not be seen or heard during school hours. Our 5th grade will follow this policy and ensure cell phones/Nooks/Kindles/Iwatches/etc. remain on silent and in book bags for the duration of the school day. If it is vital to get a message to your child, please email his or her homeroom teacher or call the front office: 678-833-1200.

Any candy purchased may not be eaten at school. Students may not go to the iRock café after school unless they are accompanied by a parent.

Uniforms: Please review the SRCS Parent Handbook for uniform policies. Students are not allowed to wear tennis shoes in 5th grade (They may bring tennis shoes to change into for recess or if their enrichment class requires them). Boys must wear belts and tuck shirts in. Any accessories (including socks) must match the school uniform. The red chapel vest will be required after Fall Break until Spring Break. On Fridays, 5th grade students may wear a SRCS t-shirt with uniform bottom/shoes.

Drop Off– We want the students to learn responsibility and self-advocacy and one of the ways we begin doing this in 5th grade is to allow students to walk to our homerooms in the morning on their own. Please drop off in the morning carline and encourage this independence in your child.

First Day!

Hello Fifth Grade Parents!

We are off to a great start this morning! We wanted to give you a few quick reminders:

  • Dismissal for 5th grade is at 3:10pm. If your fifth grader has an older sibling, he or she will meet you at the academy/high school carline on the left side of the building. If your fifth grader is a single rider or is picking up younger siblings, please meet them at the 5th grade carline in the front of the elementary school. If you arrive prior to 3:10pm, the elementary carline will still be going on and you must wait in the far-right lane on the parkway.
  • School begins promptly at 8am each morning. Fifth grade classroom doors open at 7:45am. If you need to drop your child off earlier than 7:45am, he or she must wait in the cafeteria.
  • Teachers communicate often with parents, and one way that we can give quick updates about changes in the schedule or reminders about dress-up/jeans days is through our Remind App. We highly encourage you to join by texting @k28382 to 81010 or click on the link below: https://www.remind.com/join/k28382
